Position Overview: 


This class operates within the Department of Planning and Development Review, providing professional planning services, land use planning, preservation planning, zoning administration, and monitoring, reviewing, and evaluating land use development proposals and urban design. As part of this Department, this position will provide administrative, managerial, and policy support to the Public Art Commission, integral to the City’s long-term planning.


Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing operations of the Public Art Commission, including preparation of agendas, staff reports, minutes, and running meetings
  • Providing project management for all public art projects funded through the City's Percent for the Arts Program in the City's Capital Improvement Program (CIP)
  • Developing and implementing policies and procedures to further the goals of the Percent for the Art Program
  • Serving as a liaison between artists, architects, City agencies/boards/commissions, business organizations, and community groups relative to the Public Arts Program
  • Managing all phases of the design, fabrication, and installation of the artwork
  • Preparing and submitting reports and research to PAC, City Planning Commission, and City Council
  • Assisting in fundraising activities, seeking, and preparing grant applications or proposals to support the Public Arts Program

Qualifications:


Minimum Training and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, civil or environmental engineering, landscape architecture, or related field
  • Three years of experience or equivalent amount of graduate level training
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least five (5) years of experience coordinating projects/programs in relation to contemporary art
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Arts Administration, Fine Arts, Art History, Economic or Community Development, Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related fields
  • At least four (4) years of experience in public arts program administration, project management, capital project management, and budgeting

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with overseeing the operations of a Commission
  • Proficiency in monitoring master plan and project implementation
  • Proficiency developing, implementing, and evaluating long-range plans, procedures, and policies
  • Expertise with computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite, GIS, Legistar, Blue Beam, etc.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service, manage databases, assess project conformance, conduct research, lead effective meetings, and adapt to unique variables
